Denver Broncos check off their biggest remaining piece of business just in time for 2025 training camp

The Denver Broncos have signed 2025 second-round draft pick running back RJ Harvey to a four-year contract.

Harvey was the last remaining unsigned draft pick for Denver after it locked up first-round cornerback Jahdae Barron earlier this week. There was concern around the league that most second-round picks could hold out deep into training camps, but Alfred Collins of the San Francisco 49ers may have gotten the ball rolling.

The dollar figures for Harvey's contract have not yet been revealed. It will be interesting to see how much guaranteed money he receives, as the Houston Texans and Cleveland Browns both puzzlingly gave their second-round picks fully guaranteed deals, causing a massive holdup in negotiations for second rounders around the league.

This is a great development for both the Harvey and the Broncos. Denver plans to lean heavily on Harvey as a rookie, but that would have been difficult to do had he missed a significant portion of training camp and the preseason. Rookies reported to camp on Thursday the 16th, so Harvey should be joining them immediately.

The Broncos believe that Harvey can be a three-down workhorse RB who makes an impact not just as a rusher, but also as a receiver. During his senior season at the University of Central Florida in 2024, he racked up 1,577 yards on 232 carries and a whopping 22 touchdowns.

With J.K. Dobbins now in the fold at RB for Denver, Harvey likely won't have to be a true workhorse. The two should make for a nice duo and open things up for quarterback Bo Nix down the field. The Broncos ranked right in the middle of the NFL in rushing last season at 16th overall, but came in at 21st in yards per carry average and 23rd in rushing TDs. If they can make a significant jump in both of those categories in 2025, the offense will be much better balanced.
