Derrick Henry Assigns Blame After 2 Ravens Losses

Without the help of superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson, the Baltimore Ravens have been in some trouble lately. The team has lost two games in a row and is now last place in the AFC North at 4-3.

Baltimore won the first game that Jackson entirely missed, but now drops to 1-2 during his absence. Backup QB Tyler Huntley has not played his best football the last couple weeks, throwing for 463 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.

However, perhaps the biggest reason for the Ravens’ misfortune the last two weeks is the performance of star running back Derrick Henry. He has taken the ball 34 times and gained just 103 yards on the ground with no scores.

On Wednesday, Henry said that he has not been as good of a leader as he can be. He wants to bring more energy on the sideline in hopes that translates to better play on the field, per Jonas Shaffer of The Baltimore Banner.

With the Ravens just one loss away from being .500 close to the midpoint of the season, they need a win desperately in Week 8. They will have a tall test of that as they travel to western New York for a contest with the Buffalo Bills.

For Henry, he will go against a defense that is ranked No. 15 in the league in terms of rush yards allowed. Buffalo has allowed six touchdowns as well and early reports have indicated that Jackson may be back for the game in addition.

This game may be just what the Ravens need for their offense, as they scored just 23 points the last two weeks. This Bills defense is not nearly as competitive as it was in years past, particularly the pass defense.

In seven regular-season games versus Buffalo, Henry has been somewhat of their kryptonite. Over 125 carries, he has rushed for 727 yards and 10 touchdowns, averaging a sparkling 5.8 yards per carry.

The efficiency is the thing that the veteran has struggled with this NFL season as he is averaging 3.9 yards per carry. His next chance to begin to right that wrong will come Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
