Deshaun Watson is fighting a speeding ticket

Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson probably will not endear himself to the team’s fans after running into some legal issues shortly after being named the team’s starting quarterback.

Watson was ticketed for speeding on Aug. 26, two days after he was officially named the team’s starter, according to Fox 8. Watson was allegedly driving 86 mph in a 60 mph zone while traveling on I-480 in Cleveland.

Watson has pleaded not guilty, and is set for a bench trial on Sept. 23.

While a speeding ticket is far from the most serious legal trouble Watson has faced, it is another bit of negative PR at a time when fans are already largely against him. Few Browns fans wanted to see him named the starter, and he made matters worse by suggesting that fans had a personal vendetta against him before ultimately apologizing.

At this point, the Browns are pretty used to having high-profile players get busted for speeding. It is certainly not something they want to keep happening, but it is unlikely to result in any on-field consequences for their quarterback.
