Deshaun Watson reportedly willing to hold out if Texans won't trade him

The Houston Texans are reportedly hopeful that the team's relationship with Deshaun Watson can be salvaged after the quarterback requested a trade several weeks ago. However, a reconciliation seems unlikely, as insiders have told Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio that Watson is "willing to not show up, no matter what it may cost."

While Watson has seemingly made it clear he wants a fresh start, the Texans are technically under no obligation to grant his trade request. However, the team would likely want to avoid a holdout, especially since the holdout would have nothing to do with Watson wanting a new contract. He was already given a massive contract extension last offseason. At a certain point, Houston may have to accept that Watson is not coming back and see what it can get for him on the trade market.

Fortunately for the Texans, the trade market for Watson should be substantial. The 25-year-old could be the most desirable trade prospect in NFL history. Quarterbacks as good and as young as Watson simply don't become available for teams often, and there is no shortage of teams that would likely jump at the chance to add him to their rosters. 

For the right team, it could even make it an instant Super Bowl contender. Several teams have already been linked to acquiring Watson, including the Dolphins, Jets, Bears and Patriots. Many more possible suitors will surely emerge over the offseason. Given his contract, a team can trade for the QB knowing that it will have Watson for the long haul.
