The Pittsburgh Steelers shared some encouraging news about safety DeShon Elliott in their first practice report for the Week 4 game against the Minnesota Vikings. It was revealed that Elliott, who is dealing with a knee injury, was a limited participant at practice on Wednesday. He returned to the practice field after missing the last two weeks.

Cornerback Joey Porter Jr. is also making his way back after missing the last two weeks with a hamstring injury. He was a limited participant in practice, and Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said both players have a chance to play on Sunday.

“DeShon Elliott and Joey Porter certainly have a chance,” Tomlin said on Wednesday, per the Steelers’ official website. “We’ll work those guys this week and let the amount of their participation and the quality of their participation be our guide in terms of their participation in game, and also the amount of participation.

“We were in a similar situation last week with Derrick Harmon, for example. He was deemed healthy enough to play, got him in uniform, but we were certainly cognizant of the number of snaps he played.

DeShon Elliott had a strong 2024 season for the Steelers

Other Steelers who were limited in practice on Wednesday were LB Patrick Queen (oblique) and RB Jaylen Warren (NIR – resting vet). Linebacker Alex Highsmith (ankle) did not practice on Wednesday and has been ruled out for Sunday. OL Isaac Seumalo, TE Jonnu Smith, LB TJ Watt, and DT Cameron Heyward also didn’t practice, but it was a resting day for them.

DeShon Elliott joined the Steelers in 2024 after spending time with multiple teams from 2018 to 2023. In 15 games last year, Elliott registered 108 tackles, one interception, six passes defended, and three fumble recoveries. He played in the Steelers’ season opener against the New York Jets earlier this month and recorded six tackles.

Sunday’s Steelers’ game against the Vikings will be played in Dublin, Ireland. The team moved up Wednesday’s practice an hour and a half early to get acclimated before leaving on Thursday night.

“The physical work on this side of the trip is important for us,” Tomlin explained. “We are doing some things to acclimate ourselves to the trip. We are working early this week to start the body clock transition process. We certainly have some best practices in terms of acclimating ourselves once we begin the journey. Nothing unique there.”
