Not much went the Indianapolis Colts' way in Week 9 as they lost their second game of the year to the Pittsburgh Steelers. They will hope to wash this one quickly as they now head overseas to take on the Atlanta Falcons in Germany in Week 10 before their bye week. But before we leave this game in the past forever, I think it's important to highlight two young players who balled out and showed why they both need to be a significant part of the team's long-term plans.
Laiatu Latu has had a career best game. 2.5 sacks and all over the field.

A bright spot on a bad day. Hopefully the light is coming on for the 2nd year pro. #Colts#ForTheShoe#Steelers#INDvsPIT pic.twitter.com/wEJMYPbdzm
It was a career day for Laiatu Latu, who finished with 2.5 sacks against the Steelers. He's been able to generate solid pressure all year, but has struggled to get home. That wasn't the case in Week 9 as he appeared to be one of the few players to show up big for the team today. Latu was already viewed as their top pass rusher, but this type of performance should be a solid building block for him as he continues to develop. And the Colts are hoping he can eventually become the alpha pass rusher they've been searching for since the end of Robert Mathis' time with the team.
On the offensive side of the ball, it was by far the group's worst outing of the day, but they did see two great outings from their top WRs, Michael Pittman Jr. and Alec Pierce. Pierce is playing out his final year of his contract and is set to hit free agency in the offseason. Today, he tied Pittman for the team lead with 115 receiving yards —the first time this season the team had a 100-yard WR —and they ended up with two. I think Pierce has become a must-re-sign, and the longer the Colts wait to extend him, the more expensive he is getting. The team should do everything possible to wrap up that extension before the season ends. It won't be cheap, but he has proven it'll be worth it.
