Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin suffered an ankle injury on Monday night, and the situation is unfortunately as serious as it appeared.
Godwin caught a pass for a first down late in the fourth quarter of the Buccaneers’ 41-31 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. He was hit low by linebacker Roquan Smith and appeared to suffer a gruesome lower-leg injury on the play.
Godwin had his left leg placed in an air cast and was taken to the locker room. Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles revealed after the game that the veteran wideout suffered a dislocated ankle.
On Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported that Godwin will undergo surgery and miss the remainder of the 2024 season. Godwin is expected to make a full recovery for 2025.
#Bucs WR Chris Godwin will undergo surgery on his dislocated ankle this week, sources say. He’ll see a doctor today to determine the damage & is expected to make a full recovery for 2025 — when he’ll be a FA.

Godwin is set to become a free agent after the season. He was on pace for career-highs across the board, as his year ends with 50 catches for 576 yards and five touchdowns.
Godwin tore his ACL late in the 2021 season. He still managed to play in 15 games in 2022 and had a career-high 104 catches and over 1,000 yards receiving that year. The former Pro Bowl receiver had over 1,000 yards last season as well.
