Details On Alvin Kamara’s New Saints Deal
USA TODAY Network via Reuters Connect

Wednesday brought about an end to the speculation regarding Alvin Kamara‘s future for the short term. A pay cut agreement was reached which will allow him to spend at least one more season with the Saints.

At the time, details on the financial terms of the reworked deal were not available. That has now changed, with Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reporting the pact has a base value of $6MM. Incentives can push the maximum value to $8.5MM. NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill confirms those are the new figures for Kamara in 2026.

It had long been a clear a reduction in pay for the coming year would be necessary for the five-time Pro Bowler to remain in place. Trade rumors emerged, but Kamara has managed to finalize an arrangement which will see him continue playing for the only NFL team he has been a member of. 2026 was originally set to pay out a maximum of $11.5MM in this case. A productive year would not result in additional clarity regarding Kamara’s future beyond the coming months, but it would allow him to recoup a large portion of what he was originally scheduled to earn.

The setup in New Orleans’ backfield will of course be a major talking point this season. New Orleans was among the teams to make a big-money running back addition at the onset of free agency. Travis Etienne inked a four-year deal including $24MM fully guaranteed, an indication a changing of the guard would be taking place at the running back spot. For at least one year, though, carries will be split between Etienne (entering his age-27 season) and Kamara (31 next week).

Serving as an offensive focal point throughout his career, Kamara posted at least 1,160 scrimmage yards during each of his first eight Saints campaigns. Things were different in 2025, with the former Offensive Rookie of the Year limited to just 11 games. Kamara set new career lows in a number of categories, totaling 657 yards and only one touchdown last year.

A rebound would be key for a Saints team looking to take a step forward on offense in 2026. It would also help Kamara’s chances of boosting his market for 2027 on another New Orleans pact or one sending him to a new team.
