Detroit Lions facing major Kerby Joseph issue

The Detroit Lions could face a major concern with Kerby Joseph after Dan Campbell provided a troubling recovery update.

Campbell informed reporters that Kerby Joseph would not return to practice this week. He also indicated that the Lions would not rush Joseph back, with his knee still not at 100%.

Anson Wells, a Detroit sports personality, reacted to Campbell’s comments on The Braylon Edwards Show. Wells said:

“He [Dan Campbell] will tell you, without telling you, he’ll just tell you we’re scre*ed when it comes to our hopes for Kerby Joseph right now.”

Justin Satawa, another Detroit sports analyst, then offered a more serious assessment of Joseph’s future. Satawa said:

“That was the most dejected I’ve ever seen Dan Campbell talking about an injury. And they’re going to try to put him [Joseph] out there later in the season, but he’s just not going to be able to take the hits… I’m worried that we’re looking at Kerby Joseph medically retiring after the season.”

The comments raise serious questions about Joseph’s long-term future.

Meanwhile, Brian Branch could provide a boost to the Lions’ defense when he returns, even if he is not fully fit.

Anson Wells believes Branch at 80% would still improve the unit because of his cerebral understanding of the game. He noted that the defensive stalwart could play along the line without taking on extensive coverage responsibilities.

However, Wells also cautioned fans that Detroit may not get the same version of the 24-year-old this year. That uncertainty adds another layer to Detroit’s defensive concerns, with both Branch and Kerby Joseph still working their way back from injuries.
