Detroit Lions General Manager Hints At Notable Offseason Trade

Changes could be coming to the Detroit Lions after going 9-8 and missing the playoffs this season.

The Lions wasted no time making changes to their staff. Dan Campbell has fired offensive coordinator John Morton after just one season. This seemed inevitable after Campbell stripped Morton of his play-calling duties in Week 10. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Lions have already shown interest in former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel. He'd give Detroit's staff a much-needed boost on the offensive side of the football.

As for Detroit's roster, it's possible running back David Montgomery gets moved this offseason.

During Thursday's end-of-season press conference, Lions general manager Brad Holmes hinted that Montgomery's time in the Motor City could be coming to an end.

"Those are discussions that we're going to have a lot more in depth, in terms of, like, what is the best plan for him going forward? Is it somewhere else, or whatever the case be? Just really appreciate everything that he has done for us, if it does end up going that way," Holmes said, via The Detroit News. "I hope it doesn't because we love David Montgomery. He's a good football player."

Is Montgomery ready for a change?

Towards the end of December, fans noticed that Montgomery liked a comment on his Instagram page suggesting he should request a trade.

“I love you bro, but you should request a trade,” an Instagram user told Montgomery. “The way they’re treating you and glazing Gibbs is atrocious. Look what happens when we don’t use you. We lose.”

Montgomery has been with the Lions since 2023, racking up 2,506 yards and 33 touchdowns on 562 carries.

If Montgomery ends up getting traded, that wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for the Lions. After all, a move would clear up more touches for Jahmyr Gibbs.
