Five Detroit Lions were named to represent the NFC in the 2024 Pro Bowl Games, as announced by the NFL Wednesday. Seven Lions were also named as alternates in the event, which will be held Sunday, Feb. 4, in Orlando, Fla.
The Lions selected to participate in the event include Aidan Hutchinson, Sam LaPorta, Frank Ragnow, Penei Sewell and Jalen Reeves-Maybin.
It is the first career selection for Hutchinson, LaPorta and Reeves-Maybin. Sewell will be a second-time participant, while it will be Ragnow's third time being selected.
Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and running back Jahmyr Gibbs were selected as first alternates. Quarterback Jared Goff is a second alternate, while guard Jonah Jackson is a third alternate.
Rounding out Detroit's alternate selections are David Montgomery (fourth), Kalif Raymond (fourth) and Alex Anzalone (fifth).
Hutchinson is the team's lone primary defensive selection, and has logged 9.5 sacks in his second NFL season. He ranks third in the NFL in pressures with 93, and ranks seventh in pass-rush win rate at 20.7 percent among players with a minimum of 308 snaps.
LaPorta is having a stellar rookie campaign, having already set the Lions' single-season franchise record for receiving yards by a tight end. He has 81 receptions for 860 yards and nine touchdowns heading into the final week of the season.
Ragnow and Sewell have anchored the Lions' offensive line throughout the season. Sewell has played in all 16 games, and has earned a 91.4 overall offensive grade from Pro Football Focus. He has allowed just 18 pressures and one sack in 606 pass-blocking snaps.
Sewell is selected for the second consecutive season. He represented the NFC for the first time last year.
Meanwhile, Ragnow has battled through nagging injuries to play in 14 games. He has allowed just one sack and 13 pressures in 513 pass-blocking snaps. Ragnow was previously selected for the Pro Bowl in 2020 and 2022.
Reeves-Maybin is a first-time selection who has played predominantly on special teams. In his first year back with the Lions, he has 18 total tackles and a sack. He was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week in Week 13, after logging three tackles against the New Orleans Saints.
St. Brown has continued to level up his performance, and ranks among the league's best in a number of categories. He ranks third in receptions (112) and fifth in yards (1,371).
Gibbs, meanwhile, has surpassed 1,000 all-purpose yards in his first NFL campaign. He has 915 rushing yards and nine touchdowns, to go along with 316 receiving yards and one score through the air. He ranks second amongst rookies in rushing yards and first in rushing touchdowns.
Goff has been a stabilizing force for the offense, totaling 4,255 passing yards and 28 touchdowns this season. Montgomery, meanwhile, has rushed for 975 yards and 12 touchdowns in his first season as a member of the Lions.
Raymond has primarily been a contributor on Detroit's special teams units. He has returned 25 punts for a total of 242 yards, plus has contributed 33 catches for 349 yards and one touchdown.
Jackson was a Pro Bowl participant in 2021. He has earned a 58.8 overall PFF offensive grade, and has allowed 23 pressures and two sacks in 11 games. The fourth-year pro has been bothered by injuries this season, missing five games.
Rounding out the alternate selections, Anzalone has recorded 120 tackles, seven tackles for loss and three sacks working as the defensive captain.
It would be the first Pro Bowl appearance for Anzalone, Montgomery, Raymond and Gibbs. St. Brown and Jackson, meanwhile, are one-time participants. Additionally, Goff has appeared in three Pro Bowl games in his career.
