De’Von Achane Could Be Offensive Player of the Year
It has been a few years since the Dolphins had a legitimate MVP candidate on their team.
That would be 2023, when Tyreek Hill had 1,799 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns on a Miami offense that began the year at 9-3.
The MVP candidacy was derailed after Hill’s injury dramatically hindered the offense during the last few weeks of that regular season, and that later ended up foreshadowing what was to come in the final two years of Hill’s tenure with the franchise.
Fast forward to 2026, and it seems that Miami once again has an offensive playmaker capable of being one of the best players in the entire league.
That player is De’Von Achane.
While the team might not be able to have the success needed for Achane to stay competitive in the MVP race, he should be able to easily stay in the hunt for offensive player of the year.
Achane’s role in Miami has increased every year, from a change of pace back to now, him being a workhorse entering year four in the NFL.
Last year, Achane put it all together with over 1,300 rushing yards and 488 receiving yards for 12 total touchdowns.
He also had a few things holding him back last season.
For one, the offensive line player was uneven at times, with a constant change of starters at multiple positions up front.
New general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan hopes that the issue has been solved with the addition of first-round pick Kadyn Proctor, along with some solid depth signings in Jamarree Salyer and Charlie Heck.
Also in 2026, Miami hopes to have better quarterback play with the signing of Malik Willis.
He should hopefully be an upgrade over the last regime’s big hope, Tua Tagovailoa.
There is also the fact that Achane is Miami’s lone proven playmaker.
In the past, he has had to compete for touches with Hill, Jonnu Smith, Raheem Mostert, and Jaylen Waddle.
Now, all of those players are in different places, and Achane remains the last man standing with a new contract in tow.
If he can put up those kinds of numbers with that kind of talent alongside him, imagine what will be possible when he is force-fed the ball throughout the game until Miami can identify some more talent around him.
Until then, the Dolphins’ offense runs through Achane.
And that makes him a candidate for offensive player of the year.
