DeVonta Smith injury update: Eagles WR exits game with concussion

Philadelphia Eagles (2-1) receiver DeVonta Smith exited Sunday’s Week 3 road tilt against the New Orleans Saints (2-1) after suffering a concussion in the fourth quarter.

After hauling in a pass from quarterback Jalen Hurts, Smith took a direct hit to the head from Saints defensive tackle Khristian Boyd. Smith’s helmet popped off after the hit and he laid on the ground motionless before being tended to by the Eagles’ medical staff.

Smith hauled in seven receptions for 79 yards before exiting the game. The Eagles were already shorthanded coming into the game, with fellow star wideout A.J. Brown sidelined for the second consecutive week with a hamstring injury.

Eagles overcome DeVonta Smith to defeat Saints

Despite the injuries, the Eagles were able to defeat the Saints, 15-12. Running back Saquon Barkley led the way, rushing for 147 yards on 17 carries and two touchdowns. His four-yard score with 1:01 remaining in the fourth quarter represented the game-winning score.

With Brown out, the Eagles needed somebody to step up in the passing game. That turned out to be tight end Dallas Goedert, who reeled in a team-leading 10 receptions for 170 yards.
