DeVonta Smith practice sighting brings positive Eagles injury update

The Philadelphia Eagles are currently gearing up for their second preseason game of the schedule after opening up their slate with a road loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The Eagles played that game without several key players, including wide receiver Devonta Smith, who has been dealing with a nagging hamstring injury since the beginning of the month.

Thankfully, on Monday, the team got a positive update on the star’s injury recovery process.

DeVonta Smith (hamstring) appears to be practicing in some capacity today,” reported Olivia Reiner of the Philadelphia Inquirer on X, formerly Twitter.

It’s certainly a positive development for an Eagles team that will have a lot of pressure on the wide receiver room this year. The Eagles opted to trade disgruntled wideout AJ Brown to the New England Patriots earlier this offseason, but they did help fill that void by using their first round pick on standout Makai Lemon.

Still, the pressure will be on Smith to step up as the team’s number one wide receiver moving forward, and having the hamstring injury fully behind him by the time the regular season starts will be of paramount importance. It certainly wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Eagles continue to rest him for the upcoming preseason games in order to be extra cautious.

The Eagles’ next preseason game is slated for Saturday evening on the road vs Brown and the Patriots. Meanwhile, Philadelphia will get its regular season underway on September 13 with a home game against the Washington Commanders.
