Dexter Lawrence II may not be the only Giant on the trade block

New York Giants star DL Dexter Lawrence II wants to move on. He's been trying to get a new contract for two years now, and with no progress, he's formally requested a trade.

However, general manager Joe Schoen may not want to part ways with one of his foundational pieces, especially with the Giants expected to compete for a playoff spot after years of struggles.

That said, teams looking to the NFC East for help on defense might still be able to steal someone from John Harbaugh's team.

According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, the Giants might be motivated to move on from former first-round pick Kayvon Thibodeaux.

The New York Giants may trade Kayvon Thibodeaux

"I don’t know how aggressive the Giants would be in moving Kayvon Thibodeaux, but I certainly think they’d listen," Breer wrote. "The reason is pretty easy to ascertain. They’re deeply invested in Brian Burns, who had an outstanding 2025, and Abdul Carter, whose potential, even after a so-so rookie year, is through the roof. As a result, it’s tough to conjure a scenario where Thibodeaux is a Giant in ’27."

Thibodeaux failed to live up to the expectations as a former No. 5 pick. That said, he's entering a contract year, and he'll be 26 next season, so he might be worth the gamble. Breer isn't the only member of the NFL community to suggest Thibodeaux could be traded.

While he only has 23.5 sacks in his four years in the league, nearly half of those (11.5) came in his second season, so the potential is there, and so are the physical tools.

Thibodeaux is the odd man out with the team pivoting toward Carter and making such a huge financial commitment to Burns. Admittedly, the Giants probably wouldn't have taken that approach if Thibodeaux had turned out to be as impactful as anticipated.

Nevertheless, there's just too much upside in making a run at him right now. In the worst-case scenario, he'll be off the books in a year. In the best, he can be a top-ten pass rusher in the right environment.
