Buffalo Bills running back James Cook has been a training camp hold-in with No. 4 wanting a new contract before stepping foot on the practice field, and so far, he's been a bystander.
Cook didn't even participate in warm-ups prior to the first preseason game against the New York Giants as he still awaited a new contract.
But have things suddenly changed?
Oh, yes, they certain have.
"I would say so,” Sean McDermott said. “I would say so that things have changed, and yes we've had conversations with James, good conversations as I've mentioned before, and the information that we're getting is that he is moving in the direction of practicing today, that's the information we've got.”
Was that information correct?
You better believe it was.
Cook was seen out on the practice field for the first time in training camp, in full uniform mind you, which could signal that something has shifted in his contract talks.
Cook stated that he wasn't going to practice last week due to "business." Now that he is on the practice field, it is only natural to correlate that to things moving in a positive direction with his contract.
Exactly how things move forward from here is unknown, but what isn't is that the hold-in is now over, and usually when that happens, something is going on behind the scenes to shift the mindset.
The two-time Pro Bowler is a crucial cog in Joe Brady's offense and having been absent from camp for far too long, Cook is back, and maybe a new contract might be coming with him.
