While the New York Jets acquired future draft assets for star cornerback Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner and stud defensive tackle Quinnen Williams ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline, the Jets curiously held onto out-of-contract running back Breece Hall.
Hall hinted via a since-deleted social-media post that he wanted to find a new NFL home following the Gardner and Williams trades. While speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Hall revealed that he did not request a trade.
He also didn't strongly deny that he would've welcomed a fresh start this week.
"I don’t think it’s up to a player to be traded," Hall explained, per Ben Krimmel of SNY. "I think in my situation, I think if I was gonna be traded, it was gonna happen whether I wanted to be or not. ...I can’t control what’s gonna go on. It’s gonna be what it’s gonna be, so I just gotta be where my feet are and take it with a grain of salt, whatever happens."
Hall previously insisted he wanted to stay with the team that made him a second-round draft pick in 2022. However, that was before Jets general manager Darren Mougey unofficially punted on the rest of the season by removing Gardner and Williams from the club's roster via Tuesday's trades.
As Antwan Staley of the New York Daily News noted, Hall said on social media that he was "sick" after news about the trades broke.
On Thursday morning, ESPN's Nate Taylor shared that the Kansas City Chiefs were interested in acquiring Hall before "negotiations between the teams broke down over the compensation." Taylor added that "the Chiefs offered a 2026 fourth-round pick for the 24-year-old, who the source says wanted to join another team after" Tuesday's developments. According to Taylor, the Jets wanted a 2026 third-round choice for Hall.
Mougey said on Tuesday that he feels Hall is "going to help us compete and win games the rest of the season." Those words don't change the fact that Hall is currently on track to reach free agency when the new league year opens in March 2026.
"It's nerve-racking, but I'm worried about the season right now. I'm worried about Sundays," Hall added about his uncertain future. "Because at the end of the day, your value comes from you performing on Sundays, and that's all I can worry about right now."
Hall's next chance to add value to his second pro contract will arrive when the 1-7 Jets host the Cleveland Browns (2-6) on Sunday. As of Thursday morning, ESPN BET had the Jets as 2.5-point underdogs for that matchup.
