After watching the Minnesota Vikings pull off a 22-17 upset of the San Francisco 49ers on “Monday Night Football,” Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones believes there’s now a bit of a blueprint for beating the once perceived invincible 49ers: have a good quarterback.
During a weekly radio hit on 105.3 The Fan, Jones credited the performance of Vikings QB Kirk Cousins for handing the 49ers their second straight loss while also seemingly taking a subtle shot at his quarterback Dak Prescott.
"I would've liked to have played better against the 49ers," Jones said. "You see a team step up and play like Minnesota did and their quarterback did, they can be had, the 49ers. [Our record is] 4-2, I will take it, for sure. But we have better football ahead of us."

"You know, Jerry Jones, yeah, you're right. The 49ers might can be had. You just can't do it. Remember over the last three years, you've gotten three cracks at them. How'd that turn out for you?" pic.twitter.com/U8rslBAfTA
The 49ers have the No. 8 defense in the NFL, but they rank 16th against the pass and have allowed the 12th-most passing yards (1,565) this season.
Cousins carved up San Francisco’s secondary on Monday, throwing for 378 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, becoming the first QB this season the 49ers haven’t sacked and just the second QB with multiple touchdown passes against them this year.
His 77.8 completion percentage and 107.2 passer rating were also the highest allowed by the 49ers through seven games. For comparison, Prescott completed just 58% of his passes for 153 yards, a touchdown and three interceptions in a 42-10 loss to San Francisco in Week 5.
While Jones would presumably like to have another crack at the 49ers (he might get his wish in the playoffs), if he believes his own words, Prescott will have to be at the top of his game for Dallas to stand a chance of winning.
