In huge news, the Miami Dolphins have acquired safety Minkah Fitzpatrick in a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers. It is part of the Jalen Ramsey trade.
Fitzpatrick was a 1st round pick of the Dolphins in 2018 and spent only one season with the Dolphins before being sent to Pittsburgh.
With Pittsburgh, Fitzpatrick is a 5-time Pro Bowl safety and a 3-time first-team All-Pro. He is one of the elite safeties in the NFL today.
The full trade, per source:
Dolphins trade CB Jalen Ramsey, TE Jonnu Smith and a 2027 7th round pick to Pittsburgh for S Minkah Fitzpatrick and a 2027 5th round pick

He will be asked to be the anchor of Miami’s secondary, which has a lot of holes, but Fitzpatrick will go a long way in having the unit be respectable in 2025.
Fitzpatrick has played in 106 games, started 101 and has 20 career interceptions and 608 career tackles.
Even with Fitzpatrick on the roster now, the Dolphins’ secondary right now is in shambles, with Miami losing all four starters from last season. This offseason, they have added Ifeatu Melifonwu and Ashtyn Davis at the safety position. They have yet to add a cornerback and will now depend on Cam Smith, Storm Duck, and Kader Kohou, as well as any rookies they add at that position.
With Ramsey now gone, the cornerback position is the biggest weakness heading into the season. Although Fitzpatrick can play some cornerback, being an all-pro safety, he should see the majority of his snaps if not all at that position.
Rasul Douglas, Asante Samuel Jr., Stephon Gilmore, Mike Hilton, and CJ Henderson are still available players on the market whom Miami may target.
I would expect Miami to make a move to bring one of them in soon in the coming days. We are less than one month away from training camp and I think any final moves the Dolphins will make to their roster will come in short order.
