Dolphins Claim Guard Christian Haynes Off Waivers
Earlier today, reports said former Seattle Seahawks guard Christian Haynes was traded to the Baltimore Ravens off the waiver wire. Then, it was reported that the Miami Dolphins, who currently have the higher bid (draft order), claimed Haynes. He is now officially a Miami Dolphin. In a corresponding move, Miami released their 2026 6th-round pick in guard DJ Campbell, who impressed in the preseason.
The Seahawks selected Christian Haynes with a 3rd-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. He spent 6 seasons at the University of Connecticut and was a mainstay on their offensive line when healthy. Throughout the 2023 and 2024 pre-draft discourse, Haynes was considered a top-50 prospect. He was a two-time All-American at UConn.
Haynes was active all rookie year but never logged a start. He has played just about 390 offensive snaps, recording 5 starts at offensive guard with the Seahawks this season. No penalties have been called on Haynes since his rookie season.
Seattle cut ties with Haynes after acquiring Colts guard Quenton Nelson via trade. Haynes was the odd man out, with the fewest starts among interior linemen on the Seahawks roster. He hasn’t been a bad starter, with strong hands to counter pass-rush moves along the interior of the defensive line.
A waiver shakeup: Despite Baltimore announcing it claimed former Seahawks G Christian Haynes, the Miami Dolphins actually did. The Dolphins have a higher claim and were awarded Haynes.

Head coach Jeff Hafley reported that starting left guard Kadyn Proctor reported concussion symptoms earlier in the week and was placed on the concussion protocol. He also said guard Jarrett Kingston would replace him if Proctor misses any games. Kingston logged a handful of drives as a starter against the Bengals earlier in the year after Jonah Savaiinaea left with a lower body injury.
Haynes’ addition doesn’t mean Kingston isn’t worthy of starting in a pinch, but it does mean the team rates Haynes highly. He was highly touted before the 2024 draft, and Miami’s front office was already scouting him then.
Haynes isn’t expected to start this week, as he needs time to adjust to the offensive playbook, but he may be able to win that priority backup lineman over the next few weeks. As a waiver claim, Miami now inherits his remaining 3rd-round pick, which has another year left after this season.
Releasing a 6th-round pick is never ideal, especially for a young team that needs to hit on those picks. But if the Dolphins can get their impact players off waivers, there’s no issue. DJ Campbell could sign to the practice squad if he clears waivers.
