Dolphins Claim Ryan Miller Off Waivers, Waive Tahj Washington

The Miami Dolphins announced the waiving of former 7th-round pick Tahj Washington. In a corresponding move, the team claimed former New York Giants wideout Ryan Miller. The pair just faced off in Week 2’s preseason matchup.

Tahj Washington was a 2024 7th-round pick by the Miami Dolphins. He was an electric receiver as a 5th-year senior for the USC Trojans, tallying over 1000 yards. Posing no threat in any matchups due to his small stature, he fell all the way to round 7 before being picked by Miami. He joined Malik Washington as the two receivers taken by the team that season.

Washington missed his entire rookie season due to an injury sustained early in the summer and was then placed on the practice squad for most of last season. In his 6 appearances, Tahj Washington caught 3 passes and fumbled once. His chances of making the roster were very slim entering the 2026 campaign, and he has now been waived. He was not much of a factor this summer.

Miami also announced the claim of former Giants wide receiver Ryan Miller. Miller is a bigger target, listed at 6-foot-2 and 218 pounds. He spent his first 3 years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a primary special-teams contributor after going undrafted out of Furman University. His best season was in 2024, where he tallied over 100 yards and notched 2 touchdowns in 36% of offensive snaps. Last season, he scored 1 touchdown. Miller was targeted once in the preseason matchup versus Miami.

The Dolphins are lacking high-end receiving talent on the roster, and Miller’s addition doesn’t change that fact. He is a bigger target and a special-teams contributor, but he does not move the needle. The team is in desperate need of depth at the quarterback and edge rushing position, as those have been very lackluster during the two preseason matchups so far. Miller is battling against the likes of AJ Henning, TuTu Atwell, Jalen Reagor, and a few others for the potential 6th receiver on the roster.
