Dolphins DC Breaks Silence Amid Impending Jalen Ramsey Trade

Jalen Ramsey of the Miami Dolphins is on the trade block, and with both sides mutually agreeing to part ways, it's only a matter of time before a deal is struck. While Ramsey is still a Dolphin, the future where he dons a new jersey isn't far off.

For Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver, he finally shared his thoughts on losing an All-Pro and potential future Hall of Famer in Ramsey.

In an article from C. Isaiah Smalls II in The Miami Herald, Weaver commented on Ramsey leaving the Dolphins and how he's approaching the job going forward.

Weaver said, "In this game, things change by the day. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Ramsey. He played very good ball for us, but relationships are hard. Both sides have mutually chosen to go the other way. I respect that and wish him nothing but the best."

Losing a player of Ramsey's caliber will be a challenge for the Dolphins. During his illustrious NFL career, Ramsey has been named an All-Pro three times and a Pro Bowler seven times.

Between his time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Rams, and Dolphins, Ramsey has 24 interceptions and 108 pass breakups. He's also allowed quarterbacks to have a passer rating of just 76.5 when he's targeted.

In Miami, Ramsey has been named to one Pro Bowl in 2023, with his 2024 season being the first year he wasn't named to the Pro Bowl since 2019.

The Dolphins gave Ramsey a huge three-year, $72.1 million extension ahead of the 2024 season. But less than a year later, Ramsey is on his way out. Weaver acknowledged the challenge he'll face, but he doesn't want any sympathy for his situation.

"I'm not getting any sympathy cards from anybody. It's my job, and our job collectively as a staff, to find a way to make these pieces work. What I know is every player that is here is trying to get better and has bought in."

The Dolphins' new-look cornerback room will feature Storm Duck, Kader Kohou, Artie Burns, Cam Smith, Jason Marshall Jr., Kendall Sheffield, Isaiah Johnson, Ethan Bonner, and Jason Maitre.

While in need of upgrades across the board, the Dolphins have been connected to multiple free-agent cornerbacks like Rasul Douglas and Asante Samuel Jr.

Regardless of whether anyone is added, Weaver is ready for the challenge and will find a way to get the most out of the pieces in the cornerback room that they have.
