Just days after the Miami Dolphins signed wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. — a former second-round pick by the Carolina Panthers back in the 2021 NFL Draft — to a reserve/future contract, they have signed another offensive player to such a deal.
The Dolphins revealed in an X post on Friday that they have inked tight end Zack Kuntz to a reserve/future contract.

Kuntz has only played for one pro team up to this point — the New York Jets, who selected him in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He suited up in just two games total (zero starts) across the 2023 and 2024 seasons in New York and never had any real opportunities to contribute. He didn’t so much as log a single reception in his stint with the Jets before they released him just before the start of the 2025 season as part of final roster cuts.
Interestingly, not long before the Dolphins signed Kuntz, the young man was selected in the free-agent draft by the DC Defenders of the United Football League. Of course, in light of his agreement with the Dolphins, he won’t be playing in the UFL when the 2026 season kicks off in March.
Bringing on Kuntz signifies a potential low-risk, high-reward move from Miami, as while he’s proven little at the highest level, he has a tantalizing physical profile that could allow him to find success in the league down the line. He stands at 6-foot-7 yet is quite mobile and agile.
The Dolphins have signed 6’8 250lb Zack Kuntz. Kuntz played at Old Dominion and Penn State before being drafted in the 7th round by the Jets in 2023.

It’s no coincidence that Miami just so happened to sign a player at a position of need in Kuntz. One can argue there’s been a hole at the position ever since the Dolphins moved on from Jonnu Smith and shipped him off to the Pittsburgh Steelers last offseason. Maybe he’ll prove to be the Dolphins’ long-term solution at tight end.
