Dolphins Land Mid-Round Steal, Jevon Holland Replacement in Latest ESPN Mock Draft

After making the playoffs the year prior, the Miami Dolphins had a disappointing year. With at least 29 players set to hit free agency, retooling will be a major focus through free agency, the trade market, and the NFL Draft.

While the core of their offense remains under contract, a total rebuild is not necessary. However, the Dolphins will need to address the defense and offensive line. ESPN’s latest mock draft suggests they’ll do exactly that.

Jordan Reid of ESPN completed a two-round mock draft, where he had the Dolphins selecting LSU offensive lineman Will Campbell with the 13th pick and Xavier Watts, a safety from Notre Dame, at pick 48.

Miami’s offensive line is the only part of the offense in need of major help. Reid noted that the Dolphins are under the impression that starting left tackle Terron Armstead will not return in 2025, and both starting guards are free agents.

As of now, center and right tackle are the only positions secured. This is where Campbell could be a perfect fit. He played left tackle at LSU, but due to measurement concerns, he is also being considered as a left guard.

Campbell is a top prospect in the NFL Draft and was projected as a top-10 pick in most mocks. While not explicitly stated, it's assumed his stock has dropped due to concerns about his measurements and combine results. The New England Patriots, who had been most linked to him, selected Travis Hunter in this mock, causing Campbell to slide.

If the Dolphins can land Campbell without trading up, it would be a remarkable outcome. He might be the best offensive lineman in the entire NFL Draft, regardless of where he plays. Known for his athleticism, he is an excellent run blocker.

Another intriguing aspect of this mock draft is Miami’s second-round pick, Xavier Watts. Recently, reports have suggested that the Dolphins won’t franchise tag Javon Holland, and Holland himself has expressed a desire to move on, according to a recent podcast.

This means the Dolphins will likely need to replace Holland unless a deal is worked out. Watts could be an ideal replacement. ESPN ranks him as the third-best safety and the 43rd overall prospect.

A ball hawk with exceptional range, playmaking ability, and anticipation, Watts recorded 83 tackles, nine pass deflections, one forced fumble, and six interceptions, which were tied for second in all of college football. The year before, he led the nation with seven interceptions.

In addition to his impressive playmaking skills in the passing game, Watts is also adept at identifying and stopping the run. He can play nearly anywhere on the field and rarely gets penalized.

This mock draft presents the ideal scenario for the Dolphins. If they can secure either of these players, they will be on the right track for the upcoming season.
