Dolphins Must Make Quarterback Change

Well, it was fun while it lasted.

Tua Tagovailoa was an MVP candidate during the 2023 season, and the Dolphins, coincidentally, went 11-6 and made their second straight playoff performance.

That playoff run ended in the wild card round, and since that fateful January night in Kansas City, Tua and the Dolphins have not been the same.

In fact, Tagovailoa has completely regressed.

He has gone from one of the best quarterbacks in the league in terms of accuracy and anticipation to simply not reading the field at all.

Not only that, his place on the team off the field has also seemed to hit a wall.

Last week, Tagovailoa openly questioned the leadership and motivation of some of the other players on the team.

That was after a three-interception performance and a demoralizing two-point loss.

Miami should’ve seen the writing on the wall last week that Tagovailoa was going in the wrong direction.

Now, after another three-interception performance amid a 31-6 loss to the equally bad Cleveland Browns, it is time to face the truth.

Tagovailoa must be benched.

It is not only about his on-field play that leaves much to be desired, and is one of the catalysts for the team’s poor performance.

It is also the fact that Tagovailoa has seemingly lost the locker room, and no players are inspired by him anymore.

That is a bad sign when the team does not want to listen to or play for their quarterback.

There is a pretty simple solution.

Miami should bench Tua, start Quinn Ewers, and see what it can do to find Tagovailoa a new home in the off-season.

He has worn out his welcome with the franchise.

Even the fans who were his biggest supporters, like me, have now become sour on the player.

It is not to say that he still cannot be successful in the NFL.

We have seen the resurrection of other early first-round picks such as Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold.

Tagovailoa could be a success story.

It just will not be for the Dolphins.

After nearly six full seasons, it is clear that a clean break is best for both sides.

That also means something else.

Miami will once again be on the hunt for a franchise quarterback.

It has been going for the last 25 years.

Maybe the next quarterback will be the one to break the curse.

Or it will be just another case like this.
