Dolphins RB Matt Breida out for Cardinals game with hamstring injury

The Miami Dolphins will be down to their third-choice running back for Sunday's game at the Arizona Cardinals.

As Cameron Wolfe noted for ESPN, Miami ruled Matt Breida out for Sunday with a hamstring injury. Breida was set to enter the weekend as the team's top available ball-carrier with 128 yards on 37 attempts this season.

Starter Myles Gaskin went on injured reserve earlier in the week with an MCL sprain. Gaskin must miss a minimum of three games per league rules.

The club's injury woes will likely lead to Jordan Howard seeing a heavy workload at Arizona. Howard is averaging 0.8 yards per carry on 18 attempts across four games in his first year with the Dolphins. He hasn't played since the loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Oct. 4 and was a healthy scratch the past three games.

Second-year back Patrick Laird, who hasn't yet recorded a carry this season, and rookie undrafted free agent Salvon Ahmed might also receive touches against the Cardinals with the Dolphins desperate to make life easier for first-year quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who made his first NFL start in last weekend's 28-17 win over the Los Angeles Rams.

Miami traded with the Kansas City Chiefs for DeAndre Washington ahead of Tuesday's deadline, but Washington isn't eligible to play on Sunday due to COVID-19 protocols for newly acquired players.
