Dolphins Re-Sign Willie Gay to 1-Year Deal
NFL Insider Josiana Anderson reports that the Miami Dolphins are re-signing linebacker Willie Gay to a 1-year deal.
This past season in Miami, Gay played in 17 games, started 2, and recorded 20 tackles, 2 sacks, and 2 passes defensed.
He was the shining star of training camp last August, and many expected him to have a larger role once the regular season rolled around, but that did not happen.
He saw limited time in the regular season.
Now with Jeff Hafley running Miami’s defense, maybe he can unleash Gay and get more out of him in 2026.
With Miami also going to more of a 4-3 base defense on a regular basis (although they will be multiple and play some 3-4 as well) Gay may be better suited for the style of defense Hafley will run.
I’m told LB Willie Gay is returning to the #Dolphins on a 1-year deal, per league source.

Gay is a 2-time Super Bowl champion with the Kansas City Chiefs. In 2024, he was a member of the New Orleans Saints.
Gay just turned 28 in February and has played in 72 NFL games, starting 55 prior to last season in Miami.
In 2024 in New Orleans, he played in 16 games, starting 8. He had two sacks and 28 tackles. The season prior, he started 15 of 16 games for KC, and in 2022, he started and played in 13 games for the Chiefs as well.
In Kansas City’s 2022 Super Bowl season, Gay recorded 8 tackles in the Super Bowl.
Also today, KJ Britt, who was a linebacker for Miami last season, signed with the New England Patriots.
