Dolphins receive huge blow with devastating Tyreek Hill injury

Just when the Miami Dolphins had something go right, they lost their most explosive offensive weapon against the division rival New York Jets.

Wide receiver Tyreek Hill was carted off in the third quarter after suffering what looked like a significant lower leg injury, although the severity wasn't immediately available. The injury came after Hill made a 10-yard reception on a 3rd-and-8 from the Jets 34-yard line with Miami up, 17-10. He ended the game with six receptions, tied for a season high, for 67 yards.

Hill appeared in good spirits, all things considered, while exiting the field, waiving to Dolphins fans on his way to the tunnel.

Injury puts Hill's future with Dolphins in doubt

Hill, who is likely to be out for the foreseeable future, may have played his game with the Dolphins. The five-time All-Pro is in the second year of a three-year, $90M contract restructure he signed in August 2024. Per Spotrac, Miami could release him this offseason and save $23.65M, insuring a $28.2M dead cap charge as opposed to a $51.9M cap hit if he's on the active roster.

Hill will be difficult to replace. Entering Monday, he was the only Dolphins receiver to average over 10 yards per catch this season. Jaylen Waddle, Malik Washington, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine and D'Wayne Eskridge combined for 213 yards on 25 receptions (8.5 yards per catch).

Miami is 0-3 for the first time since 2019 and a long shot to recover to make a run for the playoffs, especially without Hill. Instead of Monday night's game against New York spurring an in-season turnaround for Miami, it may have sealed its fate as an also-ran.
