Dolphins Work Out Former Raiders Draft Pick

The Miami Dolphins have hosted free-agent running back Zamir White for a visit and a workout. The back end of their running back room has seen some flux in the past month, with undrafted free agent signee Le’Veon Moss retiring and the addition of Anthony Hankerson and Carlos Washington. White, if signed by Miami, would be the 7th running back on the active roster.

White is entering his age-27 season. He is a former 4th-round pick out of the University of Georgia by the Las Vegas Raiders. He was a key contributor on a national championship-winning Bulldogs team and had the right tools to make it as a starter in the NFL. Unfortunately, he was drafted to be a backup to star running back Josh Jacobs and wasn’t able to capitalize on his opportunities after Jacobs left. He was released by the Raiders last year.

Miami is clearly looking for potential contributors at the running back position. Though it is one of the better position groups on the team, the current regime did not have much say in how to build the room beyond undrafted free-agent signings and Achane’s extension.

Zamir White has elite size and is accustomed to pass protection. He instantly offers special teams experience and would join Ollie Gordon as the power back on the team. White was impressive in his second season when he had to fill in as a starter for Josh Jacobs.

One big issue with all these running back transactions is the concern for Ollie Gordon ; does this regime believe in him? It doesn’t seem likely, as they continue to seek out players that fit the mold he does. I’m sure Gordon will have a chance to prove himself as a second-year NFL player, but he may have more heat on his seat than anyone originally anticipated.

It is unclear if there is a contract on the table for White, but he will be taking other interviews before any decision is made.
