Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill could obliterate these records

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill heads into his eighth season in the National Football League showing signs of speeding up. The 29-year-old dynamic playmaker enters his second season with the Dolphins after setting career highs in receptions (119) and yards gained (1,710) last year.

Those numbers are even more impressive when you consider that Hill was playing for the first time in head coach Mike McDaniel’s offensive system and had to adjust to three different quarterbacks.

After starter Tua Tagovailoa went into concussion protocol after suffering a head injury against the Cincinnati Bengals in late September, Teddy Bridgewater went under center. When Bridgewater later suffered a head injury of his own, Skylar Thompson, the Dolphin's third-string QB, stepped in.

Hill, the highest paid wide receiver in the NFL, still averaged 100.6 yards receiving per game, and scored a combined eight touchdowns. Hill, a former track and field star, might be the most feared player to defend in the league.

"Every play, you have to respect that this play could go a long way," Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley said, as per chargers.com's Eric Smith. "(He) has that impact that few do in the NFL, where every play, a big play could happen."

The Dolphins face the Chargers, a team that Hill has excelled against in his career, in the season opener. It could be the starting point of a historical season for Hill, who has torched the Chargers for 57 catches and 880 yards with eight touchdowns over 12 games.

Hill has publicly stated that he will be the first receiver to get over 2,000 yards in the regular season.

"All I'm gonna say is, 2,000 yards was on my bucket list to get bro, before I leave this league," Hill said, as per USA Today. "And y'all think the cheetah gonna leave without doing something he promised himself he gonna do as a kid?"

Hill is a master trash talker, who injects some serious swagger into the Dolphins roster. In addition to being at the top of many fantasy football draft boards (especially the ones that are point per reception leagues), Hill was named as one of the team’s seven captains.

“I’m the kind of guy, I love showing it vocally and I love showing it through action, too,” Hill said, per miamidolphins.com's Carter Owen. "Then on Sunday, whenever the game day is, you just make plays."

Hill can make game-breaking plays and smash some NFL receiving records in his second season with the Dolphins. Two factors could propel Hill to the record books: a healthy Tagovailoa and the benefit of lining up opposite emerging superstar and fellow speedster Jaylen Waddle, which allows more man-to-man coverage.

Either way, there is no reason to think Hill can't surpass a few other NFL records, like: the most receptions in a season, set by Michael Thomas in 2019 with 149 catches; most receiving yards in a single game, set by Flipper Anderson in 1989 with 336 yards; or highest number of receptions in a single game, set by Brandon Marshall in 2009 with 21 catches.

"I feel like I've got the right tools around me," Hill said, per NFL.com's Christian Gonzales. "I feel like this is one of those years that I can achieve it. 2,000 yards and another Super Bowl. We're getting that. Believe that."

Long before the "Cheetah" nickname, Hill's mother called him Bo, because his freakish athletic ability reminded her of the former two-sport professional Bo Jackson.

Whatever nickname suits him best, one thing is for certain: Hill knows records. And he has faith that this is the year some of them fall.
