Miami Dolphins' defensive end Zach Sieler did not attend the team's two OTAs open to the media, and it raised concerns over his plans for mandatory minicamp.
Sieler, along with Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith, presumably were holding out of the team activities for contract reasons.
Ramsey and the Dolphins have been exploring a trade, and that explains his absence, but both Smith and Sieler have been trying to restructure their contracts with the Dolphins ahead of the 2025 season.
The team announced this morning that Ramsey and Smith would not be participating in mandatory minicamp beginning today, but that Sieler would be in the building.
Mike McDaniels said Sieler has been in the building every day, and we will see him doing some stuff on the field. The extent to which Sieler will participate is unclear.
Dolphins DT Zach Sieler is at mandatory minicamp and will participate in some capacity. He hasn’t been spotted in OTAs but HC Mike McDaniel said Sieler has been in the building throughout program.

Regardless, that is a welcoming sign for the Dolphins. Sieler is a seventh-round pick from the 2018 NFL Draft who has blossomed into a star over the past two years in Miami.
Sieler was drafted by the Ravens, but has spent the last five full seasons with the Dolphins. After collecting nine total sacks in his first three full seasons in Miami, Sieler has reached 10 sacks each of the last two seasons.
The defensive end has combined for 118 tackles, 24 TFLs, 20 sacks, and 41 quarterback hits over the last two years. Sieler earned team MVP honors from the South Florida media for his 2024 performance.
With his outstanding performance recently, his contract comes into question. Sieler signed a three-year, $30.75 million extension with the Dolphins in 2023. He has two more years remaining on his extension, paying him about $10.25 million annually.
However, that annual rate ranks 33rd in the NFL among interior defensive linemen, and it's safe to say Sieler has outperformed that by a wide margin.
It's unclear whether Zieler and the Dolphins are continuing to work on a restructured contract or not, but Zieler will be at mandatory minicamp and participating in team activities.
