Key Points:

  • McNabb spoke about the Eagles QB
  • Compared him to a two-time Super Bowl winner
  • Revealed his confidence level

The Philadelphia Eagles are 8-5 on the 2025-26 season after a 22-19 loss at the hands of the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium on Monday Night Football that has fans, players and coaches reevaluating things.

The Eagles, long known for their ability to run and possess the football while taking care of it and draining the clock, were done in by five turnovers from star QB Jalen Hurts.

The loss has fans and former players including Donovan McNabb speaking out. McNabb, who led the Eagles to Super Bowl XXXIX, spoke his unvarnished truth about where Hurts is at heading down the stretch of the season while sharing a positive comparison to a New York Giants postseason legend.

McNabb Speaks Out

McNabb spoke out after Hurts' rough game, reaffirming his confidence.

"I'm very comfortable with him," McNabb said to SPORTSRADIO 94WIP.

"But they got to come to a happy medium. For Jalen, when I look at the way he plays and he brings, if he protects the football, we almost become the New York Giants (when) Eli was looking bad in the regular season," he said.

"And then all of a sudden come playoff time he looks like an All-Pro quarterback.

"And that's kind of where we are right now. And that's kind of how our runs have been."

Will Hurts Flip Playoff Switch?

Hurts plays better by numerous metrics during playoff time, completing a higher percentage of his passes and throwing for a better TD/INT ratio, although his yards per completion rate is slightly lower.

The Eagles are known as a power running and defensive minded team but Hurts knows how to pick his spots when the biggest games come into focus.

The Eagles have the dynamic downfield receiving duo other teams covet in DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown, and Hurts has shown he knows how to get them the ball come playoff time.

The Eagles also have a turnover hunting, opportunistic defense that can turn the tide in a hurry.

McNabb's comparison looms large with four games left on the schedule and the Cowboys lurking at second place in the NFC East.

Hurts can prove himself as one of the best QBs in the past few decades with another long playoff run and Super Bowl appearance, but McNabb and others know that it won't be easy if he doesn't cut back on the turnovers and hone in on playoff mode soon.
