On September 23, reports revealed that Jerry Jones shared that they would not be giving a tribute to Micah Parsons when he returns to AT&T Stadium on Sunday Night Football in Week 4. The Dallas Cowboys (1-2) host the Green Bay Packers (2-1) in Parsons’ first game since last month’s trade.
Despite the 26-year-old’s four dominant seasons in Dallas, Jones has confirmed that the team won’t honor his return.
“I don’t think that’s appropriate this way, Emmitt [Smith] was a different story,” Jones told reporters via Jon Machota of The Athletic. “But that’s not to diminish Micah. I think Micah’s got enough welcome out there. We just need to show we’ve got antidotes for that.”
The Cowboys’ stance of not honoring Micah Parsons contrasts with how they handled past returns differently. Emmitt Smith and Ezekiel Elliott both received tribute videos, but Parsons won’t.
In four seasons in Big D, Parsons recorded 52.5 sacks, behind only Myles Garrett, T.J. Watt, Trey Hendrickson, and Nick Bosa in that span. He added 63 tackles for loss, 112 QB hits, 261 total tackles, nine forced fumbles, and nine pass breakups. He never had fewer than 12 sacks in a season, even missing four games in 2024 with a high ankle sprain.
In 2025, the four-time Pro Bowler requested a trade, which came after stalled long-term contract talks. Dallas dealt him to Green Bay in late August for two first-round picks and DT Kenny Clark. The Packers rewarded him with a four-year, $188M deal, $136M guaranteed (making him the highest-paid non-QB).
Three games this season and Micah Parsons has had five tackles and 1.5 sacks. He ranks third among NFL edge rushers in PFF grades, with a 90.1 overall mark and 91.5 pass-rush grade. Meanwhile, Dallas’ defense is struggling. They rank 30th in total defense with just three sacks in three games.
