Drake Maye had the perfect explanation for Patriots HC Jerod Mayo's two-point decision

After Drake Maye's heroics in the final moments of regulation, the New England Patriots had all the momentum in the world.

While they made the decision to kick the field goal, there was the question of if they should have gone for two points. That would have awarded them the win if the conversion was successful

However, to get the initial touchdown, Drake Maye was running around for more than 11 seconds before finding Rhamondre Stevenson in the end zone. So he was exhausted after that play.

Following the game, head coach Jerod Mayo was asked if that factored into the decision to kick the field goal rather than go for two.

He declined to comment.

Drake Maye was also asked if he would have liked to go for two, and his answer made things pretty clear.

“I was trying to catch my breath," the rookie quarterback told reporters. "I couldn’t even think about it.”

Had the Patriots won the game, this wouldn't even be a question. But because of the way things ended, it's going to be talked about.

The Titans won the coin toss in overtime and got the ball first. They were powering through the Patriots defense, but a bad snap forced them to take a field goal and gave New England a shot to win it.

Maye then got a chance, but an under-thrown pass to Kayshon Boutte with two Titans safeties in coverage allowed for an interception that ended the game. As the quarterback said, it was "just a dumb decision.”

But there were other moments to win the game.

This big decision is one that Jerod Mayo and the coaching staff will learn from going forward.
