Drew Brees Says He 'Can't Stand' Watching Eagles' Offense

The Philadelphia Eagles’ offense has been a surprise to watch this season, and not in a positive context. In 2024, they scored the seventh-most points per game and churned out the second-most rushing yards per game in the league, according to ESPN. With one of the best offensive line/running back duos in NFL history, they obviously leaned into their rushing attack, but explosive plays from A.J. Brown, Devonta Smith, and Dallas Goedert kept the passing offense exciting as well.

That hasn’t been the case in 2025. Jalen Hurts has attempted just nine passes of 20+ yards this season, with nearly half of those coming in his Week 3 performance against the Rams, per PFF.

This lack of explosiveness has caught the attention of legendary New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, who called their offense “boring” in an appearance on ESPN’s First Take Tuesday morning.

“I respect Philly. They are winning games… I can’t stand to watch that offense,” Brees explained. “It’s the most boring offense.”

Brees’ comment arrives at a particularly fitting time, considering the pointed remarks made by Eagles’ wide receiver A.J. Brown regarding his usage this season after their Week 3 win over the Rams. When asked how they mounted their 19-point comeback in the second half, Brown said, “I got the ball. It’s that simple.”

There’s reason to believe we will see more explosiveness from Philly this season, but their first three weeks have been lacking from an entertainment perspective.

One key example of this came in the season opener against the Cowboys, where Hurts threw only one pass over 10 yards. Since then, it’s become clear that the Cowboys are one of the league’s worst passing defenses, as evidenced by the 748 passing yards and seven passing touchdowns they allowed to Caleb Williams and Russell Wilson in weeks two and three, the latter of whom has since been benched. The Eagles threw for 152 yards and no touchdowns against Dallas, leading fans to wonder why they didn’t attack such a clear weakness.

However, the Eagles are 3-0 after a tough stretch of games, with their strength of schedule thus far ranked fifth by ESPN. The NFL is about winning games, not how they're won, so questions about individual production aren’t nearly as important as the Eagles’ record and their ultimate goal of repeating as Super Bowl champions.

This was something Brees recognizes, and he made that clear when Stephen A. Smith asked him if “boring” can win a Super Bowl.

“Absolutely,” Brees responded.
