DT Davon Godchaux signs two-year, $20.8M extension with Patriots

Defensive tackle Davon Godchaux originally joined the New England Patriots in March 2021. That decision clearly worked out well for all involved, as the parties extended their relationship on Wednesday.

Per Mike Reiss of ESPN, agents Drew Rosenhaus and Ryan Matha told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Wednesday that the Patriots have signed Godchaux to a two-year, $20.8 million contract extension that includes $17.85 million fully guaranteed at signing. According to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk, Godchaux was on track to earn $6.5 million in base salary for the upcoming season before this development.

In his first season with the Patriots, Godchaux recorded 65 total tackles, one sack, a forced fumble and five quarterback hits across 16 starts and 17 games. Reiss noted that the 27-year-old was routinely asked "to play with power inside and hold up at the point of attack" throughout the 2021 campaign.

Godchaux initially entered the NFL when the Miami Dolphins made him a fifth-round selection in the 2017 draft. He spent his first four pro seasons with that organization before he put pen to paper on a two-year, $15 million deal with New England in March 2021.

Godchaux lined up alongside Lawrence Guy for the team's first training camp practice session on Wednesday.
