The Philadelphia Eagles added depth to their receiving corps over the weekend, acquiring wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks from the Green Bay Packers in exchange for future draft capital.

Philadelphia sent a fifth-round pick in this year’s draft along with a 2027 sixth-rounder to Green Bay to complete the deal. As part of the move, Wicks also secured a one-year extension reportedly worth $12.5 million, keeping him under contract through the 2027 season.

Eagles add depth amid uncertainty at wide receiver

Wicks arrives in Philadelphia as a potential rotational option behind established targets like A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, but his presence could carry larger implications. With the Eagles reportedly open to trade discussions involving Brown, the addition provides both insurance and flexibility within the offense.

A fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Wicks has flashed big-play ability across his first two seasons. He recorded 30 receptions for 332 yards and two touchdowns in 2025, with his standout performance coming against the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving—where he posted six catches for 94 yards and both of his scores.

Across his young career, Wicks has totaled 108 receptions for 1,328 yards and 11 touchdowns, showcasing the vertical threat that made him a standout at Virginia.

Packers capitalize on depth, future assets

For Green Bay, moving Wicks reflects confidence in a crowded receiver room. Despite also losing Romeo Doubs in free agency, the Packers still feature a strong group led by Christian Watson, Jayden Reed and 2024 first-round pick Matthew Golden.

The team also added Skyy Moore in free agency and expects tight end Tucker Kraft to return healthy, giving quarterback Jordan Love no shortage of options.

With Wicks entering the final year of his rookie deal, the Packers likely viewed the trade as an opportunity to recoup value rather than risk losing him in free agency next offseason.

What it means moving forward

The move signals Philadelphia’s continued effort to fine-tune a roster built to contend immediately. Whether Wicks settles into a complementary role or becomes part of a larger reshuffle at receiver could depend heavily on what unfolds with Brown in the coming months.

For now, the Eagles gain a young, cost-controlled playmaker with upside, while the Packers add draft flexibility as they reshape their offense around a deep and evolving receiving unit.
