Eagles advised to trade for a veteran at key position (that doesn't need one)

There are many nervous people in the media when it comes to the Philadelphia Eagles and their young defense. The Eagles are being pushed to sign a veteran to the unit.

Bleacher Report writer Matt Holder suggested one trade each NFL team should make before the 2025 season begins. Holder believes the Eagles should trade for a veteran cornerback.

"The defending Super Bowl champions lost a lot of key defensive players this offseason, including starting corner Darius Slay.

While Adoree' Jackson was added in free agency to add experience to the position group, he has struggled to stay healthy throughout his career and isn't more than an average player.

In other words, the Eagles should look into what corners are available on the trade block to bolster their chances at defending the crown."

All this harping on veterans on defense misses what the Eagles are actually doing in 2025

Technically, the Eagles already have their veteran cornerback in Jackson, so is there a need for one? They have everything they need at the position. It's not like there isn't any experience in the unit.

The focus is on Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean regarding whether they are ready to take the next step in their careers and become consistent starters. They demonstrated last year that they could do it, as they have been ranked among the best cornerbacks in the NFL multiple times.

Philly is going to have competition at one of the outside cornerback positions between Jackson and Kelee Ringo. Regardless of who wins the position battle, both can get the job done. Jackson is an eight-year veteran who has starting experience, and Ringo has been in Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio's defense since last year.

The whole point of this offseason is the save money and let the younger players play. Everyone in the mainstream media seems to be missing the point of what Eagles general manager Howie Roseman is trying to accomplish here.

They will have options in free agency and the trade market later in the season if it doesn't work out, but for now, the Eagles should stick to the plan. Let's see how the young players play first before abandoning ship.

Mitchell and DeJean are proof that the Eagles can develop young defenders into stars. Ringo and the rest of the younger defensive backs could be in the same boat if given the proper chance to prove it.
