Eagles Announce Jalen Carter News Before Commanders Game

Jalen Carter has missed the last two games for the 9-5 Philadelphia Eagles after undergoing surgery on both of his shoulders earlier this month. The Pro Bowl defensive tackle was out of action on Sunday as the defending champs dominated the Las Vegas Raiders in a 31-0 blowout. The Eagles were finally able to snap their three-game losing skid despite the absence of their star DT.

The team released its second injury report of the week on Wednesday as Philly prepares for Saturday’s Week 16 matchup against the Washington Commanders. Carter remains listed on the injury report, which has cast doubt on his availability for their next game.

Carter has started 10 games for the Eagles so far this season. During that stretch, the 24-year-old has produced 2.0 sacks, 32 combined tackles (20 solo), four tackles for loss and 11 quarterback hits. The Eagles’ ninth overall pick of the 2023 NFL draft has also registered six passes defended.

The Eagles did not practice on Tuesday and instead opted for a walkthrough. They submitted an estimated injury report, which included Carter as a non-participant. This was the case again for Carter the following day after the Eagles announced that the former Georgia Bulldogs star was held out of practice again on Wednesday.

The Eagles have not revealed Carter’s status for the Commanders game, but the fact that he has yet to return to practice does not bode well for his chances to suit up on Saturday. Philadelphia has one last practice on Thursday and Carter’s availability for that one should have a significant impact on his final status against Washington.

Joining Carter on the sidelines for Wednesday’s practice was, among others, offensive tackle Lane Johnson, who has missed the last four games due to a Lisfranc sprain. The good news, however, is that running back Saquon Barkley was able to practice in full despite a stinger issue.

The champs will be on the road for Week 16. The 4-10 Commanders will host the Eagles on Saturday, with kickoff from Northwest Stadium scheduled for 5:00 p.m. ET.
