Eagles DC Vic Fangio is the ultimate football guy following latest comment amid the Philadelphia heat

The sun is blistering in Philly, unless you're Philadelphia Eagle defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.

Fangio was asked about coaching in the heat during NFL training camp, and he delivered the ultimate "football guy" response.

"It’s not hot today. That’s a mindset," Fangio said. "We’re going to play some hot games in September, and if you cave to a hot day in training camp, we’re in trouble."

It seems the Eagles' coaches and players share a common mindset when it comes to the heat; they believe it makes you better. That said, they don’t completely ignore excessive heat advisories. Instead, they take the necessary steps to prepare for them, according to head coach Nick Sirianni.

"It’s good for us," Sirianni said. "We’re always cautious of trying to keep the players safe in these conditions, so that’s where their preparation with their hydration and different things like that and their conditioning is going to come into play. But this is good for us to be able to practice in this heat. We’re going to play in this heat."

The Eagles have three preseason games in August and face the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road in September, where temperatures will still be high.

Sirianni said a big part of preparing for the heat, aside from practicing in it, is showing up to training camp in the best shape.

"Everything that we want to do as a football team as far as how we play with physical toughness, mental toughness, relentless effort, great detail, together. It all starts with being in great shape," Sirianni said. "We’ve done some things– every day there’s a conditioning aspect to it. It just turns it up a little bit as the heat goes. And we will monitor as we go, but this is good for us to be able to play in conditions that we will play in early in September and in some hot states as the early season goes. So, we’ll use this as an opportunity.

"All these different things you can look at. We always want to embrace adversity and have that mindset at all times because we know that in a season, there’s going to be ups and downs, so we’ll use this as a benefit to help our team get in better shape. Again, like I said, it all starts with being in great shape. If we want to play the way we want to play, it starts first and foremost with being in great shape."
