One of the most important things that a wide receiver can have is chemistry with his quarterback.

That type of chemistry rarely just occurs though. In most cases, it needs to be developed and built, which is exactly what new Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks and star quarterback Jalen Hurts have been trying to do.

The Eagles acquired Wicks over the offseason, and he’s had a decent role in Philadelphia’s offense early on, catching 9 passes for 179 yards and a touchdown over his first three games with the team. So far, it seems like he’s clearly earning Hurts’ trust out on the field.

Dontayvion Wicks Earning Jalen Hurts’ Trust in Eagles Offense

Ahead of Philadelphia’s Week 4 matchup with the Los Angeles Rams, Wicks detailed the process of developing chemistry with Hurts, and how the process requires putting in work both on and off the field.

“Reps. It’s repetition and off-season work. Being around each other when everybody else ain’t around, doing the small things that go towards just getting that chemistry and building relationships,” Wicks said.

“It’s not just about on the field, but it’s about building a relationship off the field so that, that trust builds on the field. That’s the biggest thing.”

As the seasons wears on, Wicks should grow increasingly comfortable in the Eagles’ offense, and the chemistry between he and Hurts should continue to build.

Eagles Will Need Big Game from Dontayvion Wicks in Week 4

The Eagles will need a big game from Wicks against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 4, as it appears as though they’ll be without star wide receiver DeVonta Smith for the game due to a hamstring injury.

With Smith sidelined, Wicks would become the team’s top receiver, especially since star tight end Dallas Goedert will also be sidelined with a knee injury.

Hurts and Wicks will need to rely on their budding chemistry in order to give the Eagles’ offense a chance against a Rams team that will be hungry for a win after dropping two of their first three games.
