Eagles get concerning injury update on starter who quietly dominated Week 1

A few things didn't go exactly as planned in the Philadelphia Eagles' Week 1 win over the Dallas Cowboys. But, a win on the NFL's opening night is all that mattered in that moment. And, the Eagles secured it.

One of the things Philadelphia fans might not have seen coming, though, was the fact that tight end Dallas Goedert led the team in receptions with seven. More impressively, Goedert was targeted the exact same amount of times. He caught seven of seven targets. But, as Eagles fans have grown accustomed to, his name also popped up on the injury report this week.

Eliot Shorr-Parks has now reported that Goedert has a knee sprain.

"His status vs. Kansas City up in air, per league sources," Shorr-Parks also wrote.

Dallas Goedert's lack of dependability is unfortunately already on display

Eagles fans know this narrative well. Goedert has not played a full season since his rookie year back in 2018. That seems like a lifetime ago for most of us.

Last year, Goedert missed a total of seven games. The year prior, he missed three. And, in 2022, he missed five contests. It has sadly become a vicious cycle which Eagles fans have long-hoped would be put to bed. Yet, Goedert's health remains an issue and will ultimately be the main reason why Philadelphia parts with him after this season.

The writing is on the wall. The Eagles are going to need a Goedert replacement sooner or later.

It isn't quite known, just yet, when Goedert suffered this knee sprain. During training camp and the preseason, he dealt with a groin injury but was good to go for Week 1 against Dallas. So, this knee injury is a new ailment.

I would say this is concerning, but we're past that point. We are far past the point of questioning whether Goedert can be labeled "injury-prone," because that is exactly where we stand with the former South Dakota State Jackrabbit.

It has been years upon years of potential for Goedert, but health has not been on his side. When it is all said and done, he might go down as more of a "what if" than "what was."
