Eagles Get Disappointing Zach Baun Update at Practice

The Philadelphia Eagles have a major concern on defense ahead of their Week 4 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. Linebacker Zack Baun missed Wednesday’s practice while dealing with a concussion, putting his availability for Sunday’s game in doubt.

The Eagles confirmed Baun’s status in their initial injury report after Monday night’s 27-7 loss to the Chicago Bears. The All-Pro linebacker is now in the NFL’s concussion protocol and must clear the required steps before returning to the field.

Baun’s potential absence would be a significant setback for Philadelphia. He played 66 of 72 defensive snaps against Chicago, recording a team-high nine tackles, two tackles for loss and a pass breakup.

The linebacker has become a central figure in the Eagles’ defense under coordinator Vic Fangio. His responsibilities include communicating defensive adjustments and helping organize the unit, making his availability especially important against a productive Rams offense.

Philadelphia could turn to rookie Jeremiah Trotter Jr. if Baun is unable to play. Meanwhile, fellow linebacker Jihaad Campbell was limited Wednesday with a knee injury, creating another concern for the team’s depth at the position.

The timing is not ideal. The Eagles are preparing to face quarterback Matthew Stafford and a Rams offense that could receive a major boost from wide receiver Puka Nacua, who is expected to return after missing time with hip and groin issues.

Baun’s recovery will be particularly important because Philadelphia has a short week to prepare. The team will need to monitor his progress and determine whether he can safely return to practice.

For now, the Eagles have not ruled Baun out of Sunday’s contest. His status remains uncertain, and the coming days should provide a clearer picture of whether Philadelphia will have its defensive leader available.
