If NFL fans are completely over the Philadelphia Eagles avoiding the Tush Push from being banned talk, they might not like what else has been brought up with it.
Sports Illustrated writer Gilberto Manzano shared his list of the winners and losers of the offseason. Manzano acknowledged that the Eagles and the Tush Push are once again the winners and survivors of the offseason.
"I’m sure everyone is tired of the tush push conversation, but the play not getting banned is a huge win for the Philadelphia Eagles and the teams that prioritize the small details.
I don’t agree with punishing a team for being better at a play than everybody else. It’s not like that happened by accident or cutting corners. The Eagles actually practiced the play and invested in the right players to execute it properly.
In an era when practice time is easily given up, perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised about teams being upset at one another for devoting plenty of time toward finding advantages on the field."
There wasn't a more powerful storyline during the offseason than the NFL's pursuit to banning the Tush Push. The Green Bay Packers became the unofficial poster team of the ban after they twice submitted the proposal to get it removed from the NFL at the owner's meetings.
At the first vote, it was a 16-16 deadlock, but at least 24 votes are needed for a proposal to pass. After the Packers revised the proposal and submitted it at last month's owners meeting, the vote was 22-10, but still short of the two votes needed to pass.
The story behind it is the stuff of legends as former Eagles center Jason Kelce, and current team owner Jeffrey Lurie put on their superhero capes and gave speeches to save the play. It will be recorded in Philadelphia's history as one of its finest moments.
Fans know the high percentage of how the Tush Push works by now and it's up to the rest of the NFL to stop it. For at least the 2025 season before this becomes a topic of discussion after next offseason.
