The Philadelphia Eagles were projected by many to select a top tight end in the 2025 NFL Draft, effectively bringing an end to the Dallas Goedert era. Considering his age and recent attrition, such a move would likely not have come as a surprise to many fans.
The Eagles will eventually have some big contracts kick in, which will limit how many veteran players can be retained. Luckily for Philadelphia, a selfless Goedert, who is more concerned with helping his team repeat as champions, decided that he was willing to help this team out financially.
Goedert agreed to a revised contract with the Eagles that will keep him locked in as the starting tight end for the 2025 season. According to Field Yates, Goedert took his salary down from $14 million before the season to a much more robust $10 million. As such, the Eagles can now field a more balanced and competitive offense.
Goedert caught 42 passes for 496 yards and two touchdowns last year, giving him a 49.6 yards per game average that is not too dissimilar from his 48.7 YPG average in his non-rookie season Eagles career. While not an All-Pro player, he is as steady as they come when he's fully healthy.
Goedert may not be in Philly much longer, as the contracts handed out to Jalen Hurts and AJ Brown will eventually start to eat into this team's financial flexibility. However, he does have one or two more years as a solid starter left, and players of his caliber don't grow on trees.
With the Eagles reeling from an offseason in which they lost their offensive coordinator, having a solid presence over the middle like Goedert could be a very important factor in trying to replicate the success they had with Kellen Moore.
With the Eagles having solidified their depth at most of the key positions that champions need to find themselves at, they can try to find a successor in the 2026 NFL Draft. For this year, however, the former South Dakota State star will be giving it his all to add one more championship ring to his mantlepiece rather than working out a trade.
