The Philadelphia Eagles haven’t had much elite quarterback play in their illustrious history, but the few players they have had were incredibly talented.
Randall Cunningham was a generational talent, who was one of the first signal callers to ever be dominant throughout the air and on the ground.
The other, quarterback Donovan McNabb, never accumulated the stats you’d expect to see from an elite passer because of the lacking skill positions around him, but his traits were unbelievable.
McNabb has gotten a lot of criticism from Eagles fans in his retirement for speaking negatively about many of the quarterbacks who have followed him, but he recently changed his tune.
Philadelphia mounted an impressive comeback against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday led by current quarterback Jalen Hurts and McNabb let loose on the coaching staff for what the game signaled.
He called in to a local radio show in the city and told listeners, “It seems to me like they don’t trust Jalen enough, who’s your MVP of the Super Bowl… It seems to me like they’re not utilizing his ability to be able to spread the ball around and push the ball downfield.”
What changed in the 2nd half? + Donovan McNabb thinks the coaches DO NOT trust Jalen Hurts?

(If so, they should be arrested and put in jail for life if in a 5 mile radius of a football field ever again!!)#Eagles #Rams #FlyEaglesFly pic.twitter.com/t4mVKjEQ5w
The Eagles’ passing game has been the biggest concern around the team this season after Hurts threw for just 270 yards through the team’s first 10 quarters and had no passing touchdowns.
That changed in a big way as the reigning Super Bowl MVP threw for 209 yards and three touchdowns in the second half alone against the Rams.
It looked like an entirely new team in Philadelphia with the team going up tempo and giving Hurts opportunities down the field for the first time all year.
He hadn’t throw more than 23 times this season, but facing a negative game script against Los Angeles, he was forced to put the ball in the air 32 times and looked impressive.
Hurts clearly has the capability to win a game entirely by himself, which is the root of McNabb’s issues with the coaching staff. The Eagles clearly want to be a run-heavy team, but defenses have keyed in on running back Saquon Barkley this season.
Hurts has proven in the biggest moments that he can win throwing the ball, with many people suggesting that he outplayed Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes in each Super Bowl they’ve faced off in.
He will never make a fuss about what the team makes him do, but it might be in Philadelphia’s best interest to let their franchise leader run the show more often.
