Eagles Legend Jason Kelce Ridicules Cleveland Browns Quarterback Situation

The Cleveland Browns‘ longstanding uncertainty at their quarterback position has been a subject of mockery in the NFL for years. Former Eagles center Jason Kelce was the most recent one to chip in his part to it.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski tested his QBs thoroughly this offseason in an intense QB battle before naming veteran Joe Flacco their starting QB. Yet, the comments would only stop when Flacco, or any other QB, can prove themselves successful. That, and when Stefanski finds his franchise QB.

Eagles Legend Jason Kelce Pokes Fun at Browns QB Situation

Super Bowl-winning Eagles Jason Kelce’s recent appearance on ESPN‘s SportsCenter started off as any other show, until the Browns topic came up. Kelce hardly held back his mocking tone as he called out the utterly chaotic situation of the franchise through the decades.

“I think if one of these guys had been head and shoulders and the best guy, they would have went with him. But they have Joe as the safety person to fall back on because of how well he did in 2023,” Kelce commented.

Then came the punch line.

“Cleveland is not used to controversy at the QB position. It’s been a very stable position for a long time,” he added, leaving his ESPN co-hosts in stitches.

The Cleveland Curse is Real

Even the big names like Johnny Manziel, Baker Mayfield, and Deshaun Watson, who seemed to have a shot at a very successful QB run, failed to make the position work with the franchise.

For years, the Browns have produced unsuccessful quarterbacks, leaving them vulnerable to all kinds of jabs. And it’s not just the quarterbacks. Several head coaches have tried equally hard to break the infamous “Cleveland Curse,” the pattern of Cleveland losing persistently in all three major sports for 52 years, from 1964 to 2016.

When the Cleveland Cavaliers won the 2016 NBA Finals, they broke the curse for the NBA, but it still seems to be running strong in the NFL. Stefanski has a golden chance to etch his name in not just the franchise but also the NFL history if he manages to produce one successful QB from his rather crowded QB room.
