Andy Dalton’s brief tenure with the Philadelphia Eagles did not last long.
The Eagles are releasing Dalton and going with Tanner McKee and Cole Payton as Jalen Hurts’ backups at quarterback, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. Garafolo adds that the Eagles would still like to keep him, perhaps as a member of the practice squad.
This doesn’t close the door on Andy Dalton’s tenure with the #Eagles. They have a lot of injuries and needed his spot. Could still return, even via a practice-squad spot, a source informed says.

The Eagles acquired Dalton from the Carolina Panthers in a March trade that saw them give up a 7th-round pick. He only threw one pass for the Eagles, and it turned out to be a crucial interception while Hurts was being checked for a concussion.
Dalton has had a long and accomplished career, but it might be nearing its end. He turns 39 at the end of the month, though he has demonstrated over the last few years in Carolina that he can be a competent veteran backup.
Dalton has thrown 254 career touchdowns and 152 career interceptions. He went 1-6 as a starter for the Panthers over the previous three seasons.
