The Philadelphia Eagles are making a move at quarterback, contradicting what head coach Nick Sirianni said on Monday.
Philadelphia, mired in a six-game losing streak, has named Joe Milton its starter for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants while benching Tanner McKee.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported the decision Wednesday, just two days after Eagles Sirianni publicly said Philadelphia would stick with McKee.
“A QB change in Philadelphia: the Eagles are naming Joe Milton their starting QB and benching Tanner McKee for Sunday’s game vs. the Giants,” Schefter reported.

The decision directly contradicts Sirianni’s Monday message after Philadelphia’s loss to the Washington Commanders.
“Tanner’s [McKee] our guy; we are not making any changes there,” Sirianni said.
McKee had started all three games since Jalen Hurts was placed on injured reserve, losing each one. He completed 72 of 114 passes for 638 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions during that stretch.
Philadelphia’s offense struggled again Sunday against Washington. The Eagles led 10-0 early before losing 27-10, continuing the skid that has dropped them to 2-6.
Milton joined Philadelphia on Oct. 16 after the Eagles signed him off the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad.
The 26-year-old has appeared in five NFL games across stints with New England and Dallas but has never officially started. He has completed 37 of 53 passes for 424 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions while adding 66 rushing yards and one score.
Milton’s most extensive action came in Week 18 of the 2024 season with New England, when he completed 22 of 29 passes for 241 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for a score.
The Eagles host the Giants in their NFC East matchup on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
