With the NFL trade deadline coming up on November 10, 2026, there has been plenty of speculation that the Philadelphia Eagles could trade star running back Saquon Barkley.
After all, the Eagles are just 2-5 this season, putting them in third place in the NFC East.
With quarterback Jalen Hurts out for the season, the Eagles would be wise to sell off their assets this season and try to make another run at the Super Bowl next year when their team returns to full health.
But for whatever reason, it appears that the Eagles are not interested in doing that, as the team is said to not be dealing Barkley at this year’s deadline, even though several contenders could use an upgrade at the RB spot and dealing Barkley would give Philadelphia quite a bit of ammunition back as far as trade assets go.
According to NFL Network, the Eagles are not trading Barkley ahead of this year’s NFL trade deadline.
“Roseman and the Eagles believe they still have plenty of talent on the roster to compete in 2027 and beyond. That’s why, according to sources, they’ve made it clear to teams they’re not considering trading Barkley,” the report stated.
Not only that, but the Eagles are reportedly considering adding players to the roster if the club’s brain trust believes they can help now and in the future.
“There’s also still a chance the Eagles could acquire a player in a trade if the price is right and Roseman sees the player as part of Philadelphia’s long-term plans,” further stated the report.
Oddly, Philadelphia is taking this line of thinking heading into this year’s NFL trade deadline, as the team is not making the playoffs.
To be fair to Eagles GM Howie Roseman, this is not a position he’s been in often during his tenure running the team, as the Eagles have made the playoffs eight of the last nine seasons.
Typically, Philadelphia is a buyer at the deadline, not a seller, and it appears Roseman is still locked into that mindset.
But if he were more honest about things, he would realize that his team is a pretender this season, not a contender, and it would be far wiser to deal the team’s assets at the deadline, including Barkley, for future parts that can help the team going forward.
